Indian army : know about our country's defence force.

For an army aspirant it is very important to know about there goal in detail. Today, we will discuss about indian army. But first we must know about our defence distribution under which Indian army falls.

• In our defence distribution there are 4 parts:-

Indian armed forces.
Para-military forces.
Central armed police force.
Indian and stste police force.

I will also post about all 4 forces individually in detail.

• Indian army falls under Indian armed forces along with navy and airforce.

Indian army :-

• To know about anyone properly we check there history similarly to know about Indian army we will start from there history.

 > The Indian army originated from the   armies of East India company, which     finally became British Indian army,     which finally became Indian army   after independence. The units and     regiments of Indian army have earned   great honours before and after   independence.

• Now let's discuss about current structure and situation of Indian army.

  > Indian army is 4th strongest and largest army. It has 1,237,117 active personnel, 960,000 reserve personnel, 245 manned aircraft.

  > Indian army currently works under the commands of chief of defence staff.
Total wars fought by Indian army are 5,
There are 30 old opertions and 3 ongoing operations of Indian army.

• Now lets talk about exact strucure of Indian army.

Indian army > headquators
                         > commands
                         > corps
                         > regiments
                         > brigades
                         > company
                         > platoon
                         > section.

1) Headquarters:-
      Headquators of indian army are situated in  NEW DELHI. They are in direct contact with chief of defence staff and pass or gives order related to certain activity to the commands.

2) Commands:-
      There are 7 commands of Indian army. 6 are opertional commands and 1 is training commands. Here is the list of all command names and there location.

  ▪ Central command , Lucknow.
  ▪ Eastern command , Kolkata.
  ▪ Northern command , Udhampur.
  ▪ Southern command , Pune.
  ▪ South-western command , Jaipur.
  ▪ Western command , Chandimandir.
  ▪ Army training command , Shimla.

3) Corps :-
      It is a support service and technical unit. In simple words its boxes of specific department from which trops are taken for certain activity. There are 9 administrative corps of Indian army

  ▪ Army Aviation corps.
  ▪ Army Medical corps.
  ▪ Army ordinance corps.
  ▪ Corps of military police.
  ▪ Defence security corps.
  ▪ Indian army service corps.
  ▪ Indian medical service.
  ▪ Military nursing service.
  ▪ Indian army corps of signals.

4) Regiments:-
  
    These means  groups under which trops are divided so that they get state wise grouping. There are 31 infantry regiments of Indian army. Here is the list of it.

  • Punjab Regiment
  • Madras Regiment
  • The Grenadiers
  • Maratha Light Infantry
  • Rajputana Rifles

5) Company:-
  
     Headed by the Major or Captain, comprises of 120 soldiers.

6) Platoon:-

   Intermediate between company and section total strength of 32 trops. Lead by hawaldar major or subedar major.

7) Section:-
   
   Smallest outpost with 10 personnel. Lead by hawaldar.
